Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to complete all the DBT courses?

Each course is about 2 months long. There are three DBT “modules” in one complete cycle of DBT, so it takes about 6 months to complete all three modules. However, to be considered a DBT “graduate,” and become eligible for our advanced courses, you must attend each class twice (which takes about a year).

Why twice? Because DBT is skills based, and skills take practice and repetition. Learning DBT skills is like learning how to play an instrument, or fly an airplane. With time, familiarity becomes skill, and skill becomes mastery. You have to listen to the instruction, practice the skills, and apply skills in new and more difficult situations over many months to really know learn the DBT skills.

How much do your DBT courses cost?

You can save $50 if you prepay for a course upfront. The costs if you prepay are:

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness (7 weeks): $475

  • Distress Tolerance (8 weeks): $550

  • Emotion Regulation (9 weeks): $625

  • Friends and Family DBT Skills (12 weeks): $550

The cost for each course if you choose by pay the week are:

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness (7 weeks): $75/week.

  • Distress Tolerance (8 weeks): $75/week.

  • Emotion Regulation (9 weeks): $75/week.

  • Friends and Family DBT Skills (12 weeks): $50/week.

Please note that with the weekly option, payments begin when you sign up, and not when class starts.

There is a multi-student discount available in our Friends and Family DBT Skills class. The second student you sign up gets 50% off. Signing up more than two students? Email us after signing up the first two students, and we’ll provide you a coupon code for 50% off subsequent signups.

Registering for the Complete DBT Skills Course Sequence

We offer the option to register for the Complete DBT Skills Course Sequence, which saves you $400 over paying for each course separately.

Our complete Complete DBT Skills Course Sequence consists of three topics: Emotion Regulation (9 weeks), Distress Tolerance (8 weeks), and Interpersonal Effectiveness (7 weeks). Note: These courses can be completed in any order.

After purchase, you can attend the next scheduled course.

Please note:

  • Please contact us before purchase if you do not know what to expect. We can discuss whether our courses are right for you. We are unable to give refunds after any attendance.

  • If you cannot attend the next course in the sequence you can defer your attendance for a later class, as long as you complete all the courses within 24 months.

  • This package is non-transferable after attendance.

Do I have to attend every class?

Like any class, you sign-up and pay for an entire course. We encourage you to attend every class. If you miss too many, you may not be eligible to attend the next class in the series. However, your attendance is ultimately up to you.

Where are the mindfulness classes?

One of the core DBT skills, mindfulness is integrated into the other three courses. The first two weeks of each DBT course focus on mindfulness practice. We occasionally offer more advanced seminars on mindfulness, so you can further develop this important DBT skill.

What is your refund policy?

If you’re not certain if our DBT classes are right for you, please contact us with any questions prior to registering for a course. Withdrawing or no-showing after a course has begun can be distracting to the other students. We are not generally able to offer refunds after a course begins.

Do I have to reveal personal info or talk about myself in front of strangers?

No. Our DBT classes are not like “process groups.” You can talk about yourself as much or as little as you feel comfortable. For example, you may decide to share an insight you had, or tell the class how you applied a specific technique in your life. As in any class, you may be asked to discuss a certain topic, or talk about how you completed your homework. However, you always choose how much you feel comfortable participating, and how much you want to reveal.

Is the information shared confidential?

We ask all class members to agree to not share information shared outside of class, and any kind of recording is strictly prohibited. Since this is not therapy, client-therapist confidentiality does not apply. However, we ask our instructors to maintain confidentiality to the extent possible, and we take your privacy very seriously.

Students choose what name they want to display during the class meetings, and we cannot override their choice, but we suggest they include their first name and the first letter of their last name.

Do you offer training for professionals that want to learn how to be DBT therapists?

No, we do not offer professional training.
